Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet unveiled a proclamation today honoring the U.S. Marine Corps on its 234th birthday.
"Today's United States Marine Corps stands ready to continue in the proud tradition of those before them who so valiantly fought and died, combining a long and proud heritage of faithful service to the nation with the resolve to face tomorrow's challenges," Pougnet said, reading from the proclamation.
The mayor presented the proclamation at the USO headquarters in the lobby of the Palm Springs International Airport. It was accepted by an officer from the Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms.
Pougnet said he was proud to honor the Marines on the day before Veterans Day.
"The city respects, honors and appreciates their service to our country," Pougnet said. "It's only appropriate that we pay tribute to these brave soldiers who have valiantly signed up to put their lives on the line in order to protect our freedoms."
