Rain to fall through Wednesday afternoon, a half-inch expected

Colin Atagi • The Desert Sun • February 9, 2010

Rain has begun falling onto the Coachella Valley this afternoon, and weather experts expect it to continue through tomorrow afternoon.

The southbound storm along the California coast is expected to drop about a half-inch of rain on the desert, according to the National Weather Service.

The area has already received more than its normal rainfall for the season, and the tonight's extra precipitation could bring the total to 6.83 inches - more than an inch above the normal 5.33 inches.

“If you were to stop getting rain now, you would end the season above normal,” weather service meteorologist Steve Vanderburg said. "We're just continuously adding to that total."

There have not been any reports of traffic delays or road closures.
