Boys' soccer

Palm Springs 2, La Quinta 1: After being down 1-0 at halftime, Raymundo Vargas and Ian Becker both scored early in the second half to lift the Indians at home Monday.

JJ Castillo scored for the Blackhawks.

Cathedral City 7, Xavier Prep 0: The Lions had four second-half goals en route to an easy road victory Monday.

Edgar Diaz, Paul Acevedo, Christian Duran, Christopher Vivian, Carlos Virgin, Saul Acevedo and Luis Castellanos all scored. Virgin and Acevedo each had assists as well.

Brent Fries, Christian Lienez and Jesus Arrellano had one assist apiece for Cathedral City while Luis De La Jesus finished with two saves in goal.

The Lions (13-6-2, 5-1-1) host La Quinta at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Girls' soccer

La Quinta 1, Palm Springs 0: Host La Quinta beat Palm Springs, previously unbeaten in the DVL Monday as Stephanie Esquivel scored the only goal in the first half on a penalty kick.

La Quinta goalkeeper Gina Anesko made one save.

Palm Springs keepers Carisa Becerra and Emmi Kramer combined for 10 saves.

Girls' basketball

Palm Springs 44, La Quinta 32: Shyhara Chandrasena had a big game with 18 points, five rebounds and five steals to push the Indians over the Blackhawks Monday.

Palm Springs jumped out to a 15-1 lead and never looked back. The closest La Quinta came was 37-28 in the fourth.

Lauren Christian tallied seven points, 14 rebounds and two steals while Maygan Zink scored 13 for the Indians.

Hayley Nuno led La Quinta with 15 points.

California Winter League baseball

Power 7, Snowbirds 6: Yusuke Inoguchi's two-run single in the bottom of the ninth highlighted a three-run rally as the Power walked off with a victory over the Snowbirds to open up the California Winter League season at Palm Springs Stadium Saturday.

The Snowbirds had broken a 4-4 tie with two tallies in the top of the ninth inning. Back-to-back run scoring fielders choices had propelled the Snowbirds to their two-run lead heading to the bottom of the ninth.

The second game between the Chill and the A's was postponed due to heavy winds.
