If Hilby the German Juggle Boy doesn't arouse your curiosity, how about the tempting and perhaps challenging deep-fried Oreos, Snickers, Twinkies or chicken-fried bacon? You'll find them all at the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival, underway through Sunday, along with camels, carnival rides, exhibits, free entertainment and food booths — lots of food booths.
In addition to the special events listed below, you'll find free acts all over the fair grounds including the German Juggle Boy, Moxie the clown, Hoopla the clown, Jules the physical clown and comedy magician Shawn Greer.
Of special note, Wednesday is kids' day and with each paid adult admission, one child can get into the fair at no charge. And Friday, all fairgoers get into the fair for $5, courtesy of fair sponsor Fantasy Springs Resort Casino.
A musical pageant with a traditional Arabian Nights theme takes the stage in its open-air theater at 6:15 every night.
P.S. Calmer appetites might settle for a date sample in the Taj Mahal building. After all, the event celebrates the desert's crop that represents 95 percent of the dates grown in the U.S.
