  8. Golf tips: Crisper chips for a lower score

    A big mistake that higher handicap golfers make is “scooping” their chip shots. They might feel like they have to help the ball into the air instead of allowing the loft of the club to do it for you. The key to hitting crisp chip shots is to have the shaft leaning toward the target as you are making your forward stroke through the ball. This leaning shaft allows the club head to work through the ball on a descending angle, taking a divot and making crisp contact with the ball.

    A common fault among high handicap golfers is the dreaded “over-the-top” move in the forward swing. This describes the swing path of the golf club in relation to the target line. As discussed in previous articles, the swing path of the shaft is in reference to the target line. The golf swing is a series of cause and effects. In order for the swing path to go “over-the-top” it is an effect of the swing path if the club in the backswing is too far to the inside.
