  1. Valley Voice: Best gift for a loved one is to make sure your heart is healthy

To me, this quote by Robert Tizon sums up my feelings about what Saint Valentine's Day is all about. It is not only about the emotions of the heart, but also about the physical well-being of the heart, since without a healthy heart, one risks the possibility of not being able to love at all.

  2. Letter: We don't even get minimum wage

In light of the recent editorial in The Desert Sun condemning elected officials for having health insurance, I did some research regarding my own participation on the Mission Springs Water District board of directors.

  3. Letter: Some of them just don't get it

I don't think these officials should receive the perks we read about. We need a political cartoon that shows them pulled up to the buffet table, bibs on, stuffing themselves on car washes, tickets, health care, etc. totally unaware that we see them for what they are. Sadly, either they just don't “get it” or they could not care less. I wish you would publish the gratuities for all of them throughout the valley. I commend Corky Larson.

E.J. Dionne Jr.: Contraception and the cost of culture wars

Politicized culture wars are debilitating because they almost always require partisans to denigrate the moral legitimacy of their opponents, and sometimes to deny their very humanity. It's often not enough to defeat a foe. Satisfaction only comes from an adversary's humiliation.

This nonsense began when a tourist wrote in about the military jets, interfering with her relaxing by her pool with a cocktail. That in itself tells us how self-absorbed this person is.
