The Dos Pueblos High School softball team had a magic number and maybe a Magic 8-ball, too.
The CIF Southern Section has removed the Shadow Hills High School girls' softball team from the postseason for a violation of playoff rules.
To win a playoff softball game on the road, you usually have to battle until the final out. That was the case Tuesday for two valley teams, and both La Quinta and Shadow Hills were left celebrating after that pivotal final out was recorded.
The Palm Desert High School softball team couldn't dig out of an early hole and it eventually became too deep to come back in the first round of the Division IV CIF playoffs Thursday night.
Upon a lot adjacent to the Shadow Hills softball field run two dogs, a chocolate and golden lab. At times during play, the hounds feign interest in the goings-on of the game, but, really, spend most of the time absently chasing their own tails.
Four-year varsity player Allison Brown of Palm Desert High School battled through two medical issues during her softball career, but that hasn't derailed her game.
The game that may have been the turning point for the Shadow Hills High School softball team was that one against Desert Hot Springs. One extra inning, one run, one loss.
